A hot weekend then thundery and eventually fresher next week

Hot and dry weather continues through this weekend with the heat building. This leads to thunderstorms developing on Monday, becoming more widespread on Tuesday. It will be the middle to later pat of the week before fresher air arrives for all, some showers by then in the north and west but drier east and south.

Monday 15/8/22
An area of low pressure affecting the British Isles on Monday. It is going to be another very warm day across England, Wales and Ireland, hot in some places. There will be broken cloud and some sunshine in central and eastern areas at first. Cloud and showery rain affecting Scotland and the far west of England, Wales and eastern Ireland. Thundery bursts of rain then developing over northern and western areas in the afternoon, these extending into the Midlands and southern England. Showers more isolated in the east. Temperatures rising to 35C in the eastern Midlands, a much fresher 14C in northwest Scotland, 22C in eastern Ireland.


Tuesday 16/8/22
Low pressure to the south will be pushing a thundery trough north through much of England and Wales on Tuesday. Showery bursts of rain in central and eastern Scotland as well as northern England. Warmer and brighter in western Scotland, Ireland and eventually western England and Wales. Turning fresher in the north and west, but still very warm in the southeast. 29C in southern England, 12C in northern Scotland.

Wednesday 17/8/22
Some thundery rain or showers may continue to affect East Anglia and southeast England on Wednesday. A ridge of high pressure builds across Scotland and Ireland as well as northern England and Wales bringing fresher, drier weather with sunny spells. Tops near 16C in northern Scotland, 18 to 23C for most but still to 27C in the far southeast.

Thursday 18/8/22
A cold front is expected to be moving into Scotland and Ireland on Thursday bringing cloud and some showery rain with it. This rain band breaking up as it heads east and south with only one or two showers later in northwest England and northwest Wales. Other areas are going to be dry with sunny spells throughout the day. Temperatures at 18 to 23C.

Friday 19/8/22
Some cloud in the far south of England on Friday as the remains of a front pass south. There may be an odd spot of rain, but predominantly dry. Brighter for other areas with sunny intervals. Heavy showers in western Scotland and northwestern parts of Ireland. Highs near 18 to 25C.

Saturday 20/8/22
A fair day as a ridge of high pressure builds. Dry with sunny spells for many, although some cloud and rain in northern Scotland. Increasing cloud in western Ireland with a risk of some rain here later. Highs at 19 to 26C.
