Snow for some, staying cold, more sleet and snow possible next week

Temperatures will continue to stay cold through most of next week but as high pressure ridges briefly build over the country the sleet and snow showers will be punctuated by some drier and brighter spells.

Saturday 02/02/19
Low pressure to the east and a ridge of high-pressure building to the west through Saturday will lead to a cold, northerly airflow over the UK and Ireland. It will be a very cold start to the day away from southeast England with a widespread frost and icy patches expected. It should be a bright and dry day for most though there will always be a chance of wintry showers for coasts exposed to the northerly wind, particularly in the east. A cold day with high temperatures at 0 to 5C.

Sunday 03/02/19
A very cold start to Sunday as a ridge of high-pressure builds over the country overnight and through the morning. Another widespread frost, and ice patches, for most areas first thing. It should be a mostly dry and bright morning though cloud will build from the west through the afternoon. Rain will move into Ireland through the morning and wintry showers will reach western fringes of England, Scotland and Wales by the early afternoon. Showers will continue to move eastward reaching most areas by the late evening. High temperatures at 1 to 5C.

Monday 04/02/19
Rain and wintry showers should continue to move off to the east through Monday morning as a trough moves over the North Sea and high pressure tries to build once more over the British Isles. Confidence in the timing of this is low but as high pressure re-establishes it will bring dry and bright conditions. Highs at 2 to 6C for most.
 

Tuesday 05/02/19
Another set of fronts may bring cloud and rain into Ireland first thing, turning to sleet on the hills. These fronts will continue to move east through the day reaching eastern parts of the country through the evening. Highs at 1 to 6C for most, 7C in Ireland.

Wednesday 06/02/19
High pressure may re-establish once more leading to a bright and dry day for most away from the southeast where some showers may linger. High temperatures at 1 to 6C.

Thursday 07/02/19
Thursday may see the arrival of another front bringing rain, sleet and snow to Ireland and Scotland. Dry with some sunny spells for much of England and Wales. Highs at 3 to 6C.
