Warming up again in the south

The current late summer hot spell with ease later this week as showery rain develops across Britain. A mixed but not bad weekend ahead, with fresher temperatures by day and cooler nights developing. Next week is likely to see warm air return in the south at least.

Friday 10/9/21
A shallow area of low pressure is due to lie just east of Britain. Showery bursts of rain are likely, these could be heavy in places, mainly eastern Scotland and eastern England as far south as about Lincolnshire. A scattering of showers are likely to drift from Wales into the Midlands. Rather cloudy for most but some sunny intervals, best toward southern coasts. Reasonably mild for the south and east with highs at 24C, cooler north and west at 17 or 18C.

Saturday 11/9/21
High pressure begins to build from the west over the weekend. A north to northeasterly breeze affects many places on Saturday with fairly cloudy skies. Some patchy rain or showers, mainly central-southern Scotland and northeast England. Chance of a local shower elsewhere, but many places will be dry. Best of some sunshine in the morning across southern England, although some low-lying fog patches may occur. Top temperatures 17 to 22C, warmest in the southeast.

Sunday 12/9/21
High pressure extends back across the northern half of Britain resulting in a fair day with sunny spells for Scotland, Northern Ireland and much of northern England. East and southern regions are likely to be cloudier, with some showery rain possible near to English Channel coasts for a time. A fresh northeasterly breeze will take the edge off the temperatures in the south. A cool start with some fog patches in the north. Highs 16 to 19C.

Monday 13/9/21
Quite a cool start to the morning for many places, especially in the north and west with clear skies and some low-lying fog. Breezier and cloudier in the far south. A mainly dry dry, but chance of a few showers grazing along the south coast, and a risk of patchy drizzle coming in from the North Sea into East Anglia. An easterly breeze will be fresh in the south, light winds in the north. Highs 14 to 18C.

Tuesday 14/9/21
Temperatures are expected to rise again in the south as the airflow turns back to the southeast and allows continental warmth to drift back over Britain. With this comes a risk of some showery bursts of rain however, perhaps the odd thundery burst pushing north and westwards. Scotland more likely dry under high pressure. Highs 22 to 25C in the south, 15 to 18C in the north.

Wednesday 15/9/21
A southeasterly pattern is expected to continue. Quite warm and humid in the south, but some areas of showers or thundery rain possible, focused toward the southwest. Further north is likely to be drier and sunnier, probably best in western Scotland, whilst eastern districts may drag in cloud from the North Sea. Highs 17 to 25C, warmest in any sunny periods in the south.
