Week ahead - October 15, 2020
Mostly dry initially
Rain next week

Issued: 0930 Thursday 15th October 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Largely dry yet chilly this weekend but with some pesky showers about. Unsettled, however, next week.

Cool weather continues for the rest of this week and into the weekend. Largely dry but with pesky showers being pulled in on that northeasterly wind. Unsettled to start the new week as low pressure dominates. Expect rain, heavy at times, and strengthened winds. Less cold in the south but staying cold in the north.

Sunday 18/10/20
It will be a rather cloudy day for many with best of any sunshine across Ireland and Wales as high pressure still remains in charge. Largely dry but the risk of a few scattered showers over the hills of northern England and Scotland. There is even the chance for fog and mist patches to linger over parts of central and southern England under those slack winds. Patchy outbreaks of rain expected to move in across north and northwest Scotland by the end of the day. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Monday 19/10/20
Turning unsettled across the northern half of the country atleast for the start of the new week as low pressure moves in across Scotland. There will be periods of rain through Scotland and northern England as well as southern and eastern Ireland and the north of Wales. Brighter weather with showers following to western Ireland and western Scotland. Dryer across southern parts of England although rather cloudy. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Tuesday 20/10/20
Another Atlantic low pressure will move across the country on Tuesday bringing some heavy and persistent spells of rain. Strengthening winds too as the associated fronts move through from west to east. Relatively mild in the south with highs at 15C here but cooler to the north with highs at 10C here.

Wednesday 21/10/20
An area of low pressure is expected to be east of the country on Wednesday. This brings a brighter but showery west to north-westerly flow through all areas. There will be some sunny spells, the best to the east and south. Showers could be heavy at times in the north and the west. Staying windy with highs at 9 to 14C.

Thursday 22/10/20
A touch of frost in places across Scotland to start and generally a chilly start for all. Showers affecting northern and western areas mainly as winds back round to the west. Driest and brightest conditions to the south and east where a brief ridge of high pressure tries to build in here. Staying chilly through the day. Highs at 8 to 12C.

Friday 23/10/20
Another Atlantic low currently looks to affect the UK on Friday bringing spells of rain to western areas initially but spreading east by the end of the day. Highs climb slightly in the south at 8 to 14C.
