Unsettled next week

Issued: 0930 Tuesday 16th April 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Looking dry and bright for most for the start of the holiday weekend

Temperatures are generally on the increase through this week as our winds shift from the northeast to southeast drawing in warmer air. There will be some rain and showers around, mostly for western areas, through this working week but it should be mostly dry and fair for the start of the holiday weekend. Early indications are that high pressure will start to break down by the beginning of next week.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Friday 19/04/19
A ridge of high pressure extends from Scandinavia across the British Isles on Friday. It will be a dry day with a mixture of sunny spells and cloudy skies. The best of the brightness will be over eastern areas. Highs at 13 to 14C on eastern coasts, more widely 17 to 21C.

Saturday 20/04/19
High pressure keeps the weather fair for most into the start of the holiday weekend. Warm with some good spells of sunshine, particularly in the southeast. Cloud will build over the northwest through the day leading to a few spots of rain through the afternoon for Northern Ireland and Scotland. High temperatures at 17 to 22C.

Easter Sunday 21/04/19
Sunday sees the arrival of low pressure in the northwest. It will be an overcast and showery day for the island of Ireland and Scotland. A cloudy but dry day for much of England and Wales. Best chance of brightness in the far southeast. High temperatures at 11 to 15C in Scotland, 16 to 22C elsewhere.

Holiday Monday 22/04/19
Models are hinting at the further breakdown of high pressure on Monday and the passage of a low pressure system across the UK and Ireland that could bring rain and a brisk westerly wind to northwestern areas. Staying mostly dry and bright across England and Wales. Highs at 11 to 16C for the island of Ireland and Scotland, 16 to 21C for England and Wales.

Tuesday 23/04/19
Confidence is low but there are hints that a low pressure system may develop that could bring wet and windy conditions to most on Tuesday. High temperatures at 10 to 20C.

Wednesday 24/04/19
Again confidence remains low at this time, but a further area of low pressure could develop that would bring more rain and high winds to the UK and Ireland. Highs at 9 to 15C.
