Heatwave this week, unsettled the next

A hot and humid week with predominantly dry weather about with exception to the far north of Scotland where there will be more cloud and patchy rain. Highs into the mid 30s are expected by the end of the week across England and Wales. Then a thundery breakdown from Monday bringing in cooler temperatures for all and a wetter weather pattern thereafter.

Friday 12/8/22
Staying very warm or hot. High pressure centred toward the north allows a southeasterly breeze to prevail. Sunshine and quite hazy skies across England and Wales. Possible some low cloud or fog near some North Sea coasts. A weak front across nothern Scotland will bring thicker cloud and patchy rain here. Otherwise another dry day. Highs 31 to 35C for central and southern areas, 23 to 28C north and near coasts.

Saturday 13/8/22
High pressure toward the north and northwest. Easterly breezes prevailing. Dry for most places though still more cloud and the risk of some spots of rain in the north of Scotland, perhaps turning showery in a few places. Some low cloud and drizzle may affect eastern coasts where temperatures would be cooler. Otherwise a hot day again, highs 31 to 35C south, 23 to 28C north.

Sunday 14/8/22
Risk of thunderstorms developing in the far south as well as through parts of Ireland. Otherwise, it will be dry and fine with sunny spells and again feeling very warm, hot in the south. Highs at 20C in the far north up to 34C across southern England.

Monday 15/8/22
Lowering pressure may see showers and thunderstorms break out more widely, although locally hit and miss, moving around slowly under light winds. Still very warm, but temperatures easing back with more cloud cover. Highs 25 to 30C, cooler in the west.

Tuesday 16/8/22
More showers and rain on Tuesday as low pressure pushes north. Much of the heavier rain will clear western areas and become confined further east. Sunny spells but also blustery showers develop in the west on a brisk north-westerly wind. A much cooler and fresher day for all with highs at 16 to 23C.

Wednesday 17/8/22
A breezy day with sunshine and showers, these perhaps merging into longer spells of rain for some as the day progresses. Feeling chilly in the wind with highs at a cool 16 to 20C.
