Fresher
Sunshine and showers

Issued: 1000hrs Monday 7th May 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Mixed into the weekend, drier further ahead

A changeable outlook as low pressure to the west pushes frontal systems in from the Atlantic. Areas of rain or showers, most persistent in the west. The south and east should escape often dry. The longer range outlook favours higher pressure being nearby, bringing drier conditions more often. Temperatures falling back nearer to average, but some warmth may redevelop as we head through mid-May.

Thursday 10/05/18
High pressure builds across the south, resulting in dry weather for many. Sunny spells and variable cloud. A few showers are likely, these mainly affecting western Scotland, but will locally pop up for central and eastern Britain through the day. Winds mostly light from the west or south-west. Breezy around coasts. Fresher than previous days, highs 16 to 19C south and east, 12 to 15C north & west.

Friday 11/05/18
Low pressure to the west, with fronts coming in to bring rain or showers to Ireland and eventually western Britain, although the eastward progress of this is uncertain. Patchy rain may reach central areas later, but much of Britain will stay dry. Some sunshine in the east, clouding up from the west. A southerly breeze, strongest around western coasts. Highs 13 to 19C, warmest south-east.

Saturday 12/05/18
Confidence of detail is low: A general south-westerly pattern brings sunshine and showers. A zone of frontal rain may pass eastwards and fade, followed by clusters of showers from the west. Local heavy bursts possible. Probably driest toward the south-east. Feeling fresh, highs 12 to 18C.

Sunday 13/05/18
Staying mixed with sunshine and areas of showers again, the showers probably focused toward the west, and may be fewer elsewhere as pressure builds. Perhaps largely dry south and east. Highs 13 to 19C.

Monday 14/05/18
Detail uncertain, but indications favour a build of pressure, and things settling down with a good deal of sunshine and becoming warmer. A few residual areas of showers may linger. Highs 14 to 20C.

Tuesday 15/05/18
Generally dry, but with a risk of areas of showers in places. Broken cloud and sunny periods. Sunniest around coasts. Becoming warmer, 16 to 22C.
