Varied temperatures, some cooler days

Low pressure systems will move in from the Atlantic during the week ahead, bringing heavy rain at times, plus winds reaching gale force around exposed coasts and hills. It will be generally cooler than recent times, although milder air will move across southern Britain on some days.

Tuesday 28/9/21
An area of low pressure will sweep in from the southwest through the day. Heavy rain for much of western Britain and across Ireland. Most prolonged heavy falls focused on southern Scotland. Rain spreads east across England and Wales through the afternoon into evening. Northern Scotland escapes with little rain. Strong south to southwest winds, gusting gale force near coasts in south and west. Mild in the south and east, up to 19C, cooler north and west, nearer 13C.


Wednesday 29/9/21
One area of low pressure drifts eastward into the North Sea and fizzles out. Early patchy rain and brisk winds in eastern Britain will fade.A brief ridge of high pressure will result in a dry day for much of England & Wales, although staying breezy. Another Atlantic low approaches from the west, bringing rain initially to Ireland, but reaching western Scotland through the afternoon. Feeling fresh, highs 13 to 17C.


Thursday 30/9/21
A westerly flow prevails, brisk winds bringing outbreaks of rain or showers passing west to east across Britain. Some persistent rain possible for central England as fronts moves through. Fairly cloudy skies overall. Showery rain frequent toward the northwest, whilst eastern Scotland and northeast England will be drier. Southeast England also generally drier. Highs 13 to 18C.


Friday 1/10/21
West to southwesterly winds prevail, strengthening again in the north and west as another Atlantic low moves close to northwest Scotland. Rain affects Scotland and Ireland, heaviest in the west. Rain moves into west Wales and southwest England also. The Midlands, south and east of England should stay dry for many hours with some sun. Feeling warmer here, highs 15 to 19C.

Saturday 2/10/21
A frontal system is expected to pass east and south across England and Wales, producing a period of heavy rain for most places. This clears from the northwest, with sunny spells following. Showers will rattle in to western Scotland and Ireland on a brisk westerly breeze. Risk of southwesterly gales for a time around the English Channel. Highs 14 to 18C.

Sunday 3/10/21
Showery southwesterly winds prevail, with low pressure situated close to northwest Britain. Rain most frequent in the west. Drier and brighter toward southeast England. Northern Scotland also may be drier. Blustery winds, gales around exposed western coasts. Highs 13 to 17C.
