Often warm in the south, cooler north and west

Low pressure will influence Britain early in the new week with rain and thunderstorms focused on southern areas. High pressure moves through briefly during midweek, then changeable westerlies move in later in the week, although southeastern areas will be often drier and warmer.

Wednesday 17/8/22
A front affects southern and central England and Wales with cloud and outbreaks of rain, before slowly retreating to the south. Some heavy and possibly thundery bursts locally in the southeast. A ridge of higher pressure builds into Ireland and Scotland bringing drier conditions here with some sunny spells, these edging southwards during the day. An Atlantic front approaches the far west of Scotland and Ireland later. Highs 20 to 23C in the south, 16 to 19C in the north.


Thursday 18/8/22
A frontal system continues to move into west and northwestern areas. Patchy rain and a few showers for Scotland and Ireland. Fair for most of England and Wales with sunny spells, although a few showers in west Wales. Perhaps some cloud and patchy rain close to the coasts of East Anglia early in the day. Highs 23 to 26C in central and southern Britain, 16 to 19C for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Friday 19/8/22
Showery conditions across the north and west of Britain and Ireland with fresh westerly breezes. A scattering of showers move across central and southern areas, but often drier here under higher pressure, broken cloud and sunny spells. Highs 16 to 19C north, 21 to 24C central England and Wales, 25 to 27C in the south.

Saturday 20/8/22
Mixed westerly conditions, with rain or showers most common in the west and northwest of the British Isles, feeling cool here. Drier, brighter and warmer toward the south and east. Highs ranging between 17 to 27C.

Sunday 21/8/22
Fair in southeastern areas with sunny spells. Cloud, wind and patchy rain across the north and west, focused on Ireland and western Scotland. Highs 17C northwest, to 25 to 29C in central and southern England.

Monday 22/8/22
Showery conditions for many places with westerly winds prevailing. Some persisent rain possible in western areas. A lot of cloud and feeling cooler. Highs 16 to 23C.
