Week ahead - April 19, 2019
Dry & bright at first
Unsettled later next week?

Issued: 0930 Friday 19th April 2019

Looking dry and bright for most for the holiday weekend, hints of more unsettled conditions returning next week

It should be mostly dry and fair through the holiday weekend though cloud will build into the northwest bringing a few spots of rain for Scotland and Ireland. Confidence in the models is low at this time as there are two possible scenarios going through next week: one favours high pressure staying dominant and the continuation of dry and settled conditions; the other favours the retreat of high pressure over mainland Europe allowing low pressure systems to track across the UK and Ireland bringing a spell of unsettled weather.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Holiday Monday 22/04/19
It looks as though high pressure will remain dominant through Holiday Monday bringing a dry day with plenty of sunshine to much of the UK and Ireland. Any early morning mist or fog patches should quickly clear though the sun may remain hazy through the day for western areas. Through the afternoon there may be a flare up of showers over southwestern England, south Wales and Ireland. Elsewhere there will be a good deal of sunshine around and it will feel particularly warm inland, away from the coast. Highs at 17 to 21C.

Tuesday 23/04/19
High pressure should remain in charge on Tuesday for most bringing another mostly fine day across the UK. It may be somewhat cloudy with frequent showers for Ireland. Any early morning most or fog patches should quickly clear. The best of the sun over the north of England and Scotland. A small trough may develop over the southwest through the day that could bring some heavy rain through the afternoon and evening. High temperatures at 16 to 18C for most, just 11 to 13C for eastern coasts.

Wednesday 24/04/19
Confidence is low at this time but an area of low pressure may track from southwest to northeast across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday bringing a cloudy day with periods of rain and showers. Breezy too, particularly in the west. Highs at 11 to 18C.

Thursday 25/04/19
Once again confidence is low but low pressure may continue to affect the British Isles through Thursday bringing a mixture of rain and showers for most. Breezy once more. Highs at 11 to 13C in the west, 15 to 17 in the east.

Friday 26/04/19
A westerly flow may establish on Friday bringing a mixture of sunny spells, scattered showers and longer spells of rain for some. High temperatures at 8 to 11C in the west, 13 to 16C in the east.

Saturday 27/04/19
We may see a ridge of high pressure build from the south on Saturday bring a mostly dry and bright day. Some showers may affect eastern coasts. High temperatures at 9 to 13C.
