Colder and windier for all with sleet, hail and snow

Temperatures are going to be falling across much of England and Wales in the next couple of days as cold air, already affecting Scotland, drains south. Snow is going to be featuring in the forecasts mainly, but not exclusively, over the hills of Scotland, northern England, Wales and Ireland. Indications are that it stays chilly into next wek with wintry showers for many.

Saturday 25/11/17
Low pressure stays to the northeast of Scotland on Saturday. This brings a cold day to all with the wind bringing a significant wind-chill. There will be some wintry showers, mostly in the north and west with snow at low levels in Scotland, perhaps merging to some more prolonged spells of snow over the hills at times. Generally bright and dry in more central and eastern areas. Highs at 4 to 7C.


Sunday 26/11/17
Detail is uncertain for Sunday. Most likely a cool day with west to north-westerly winds bringing a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers most frequent toward the north & west, with snow and hail over the hills, but at times falling to low levels. Tending to be drier in southern and eastern areas although still cold. Temperatures rising to around 4 to 8C.
 


Monday 27/11/17
Broadly unsettled with low pressure in charge, passing east through the UK. Milder air is expected to move in from the Atlantic as fronts move in. Rain turning persistent for western regions. Patchy rain spreading eastwards on brisk winds. Colder air may quickly return into northern regions, with snow possible over the hills. Highs 6 to 11C.
 


Tuesday 28/11/17
High pressure is expected ot the west on Tuesday with low pressure to the east. A risk of cold northerly winds extending across the country. Showery around coasts in the east, west and north, with snow and hail. Brighter inland with sunny spells. Highs 3 to 8C.


Wednesday 29/11/17
A ridge of high pressure affects western areas, a colder northerly flow to the east. There will be some showers affecting eastern coasts, but drier to the west. Staying cold for most although some milder air may arrive in western Scotland. Highs at 4 to 9C.

Thursday 30/11/17
Another cold one on Thursday. Wintry showers in the east thanks to low pressure still being close by. Higher pressure to the west with drier weather and sunny spells. Tops at 3 to 8C.
