Cool and mixed with rain and showers for many, drier towards the weekend

Cool and mixed weather in the coming days. There is a risk of some heavier rain across central and southern areas on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the weather turning chiller again into the weekend. Conditions may then become drier through the weekend and into next week, although still some showers on coasts to the west, north and east.

Friday 09/10/20
Low pressure to the northeast of Scotland on Friday. This brings outbreaks of rain across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England as well as across the southern half of Scotland. Rain clears western and northern areas through the morning to give some good spells of sunshine though scattered showers also follow, especially over northwest-facing coasts and hills. Rain takes a little longer to clear eastern England but should do so by the evening. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Saturday 10/10/20
A brighter but colder northwest to northerly flow affects the whole of the British Isles on Saturday. Higher pressure west of Ireland with low pressure to the east. There will be a mix of sunshine and showers. Mot showers in northern and eastern Scotland and eastern England where they may merge to give longer spells of rain. Fewer showers in the west where the best sunshine will be too. Highs at 11 to 14C.

Sunday 11/10/20
Higher pressure southwest of Ireland with low pressure to the east on Sunday. The result is a north to northwest wind but a fair day for many as well. Some showers around northern and eastern coasts, but generally drier elsewhere. A cold start to the day with a frost in places and then staying chilly with highs at 10 to 13C.

Monday 12/10/20
A weak front may be bringing some outbreaks of rain in western Scotland and Ireland on Monday. More central and eastern areas should be dry although rather cloudy with only limited spells of sunshine. Highs at 11 to 14C for most, just 7 to 9C across Scotland.

Tuesday 13/10/20
Brighter and cooler on Tuesday. There will be showers again around the coasts of the west, north and east. Tending to be drier elsewhere with sunny spells. High temperatures range from 8 to 12C.

Wednesday 14/10/20
Pressure lowers from the west once more on Wednesday with fronts bringing outbreaks of rain into Ireland and Northern Ireland. The rest of the UK should see some good bright spells with showers for eastern coasts. Highs at 8 to 12C.
