More unsettled next week with strong winds, rain, sleet and the risk of some snow

With the jet stream overhead small areas of low pressure could develop bringing localised gales and more intense wintry showers, especially in the west and south.

Saturday 13/1/18
Plenty of cloud across much of the UK and Ireland on Saturday with a south to southeast flow affecting all areas. There will be outbreaks fo rain in Ireland and western Scotland as well as the far west of Wales and southwest England. Mostly dry to the east although there could be an odd spot of drizzle on hills. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Sunday 14/1/18
A fairly slack pressure flow across the country on Sunday. This brings mist and murk with some low cloud as well. A few bright spells may developing into the afternoon as the fog tends to lift. Becoming windier in western Scotland and western Ireland with heavier bursts of rain and gales arriving here in the evening. Highs at 5 to 9C.

There is a risk of an area of more organised wintry showers passing east through England, Wales and Ireland later. Highs at 2 to 5C.

Wednesday 18/1/18
Low pressure remains north of Scotland on Wednesday with a strong westerly flow affecting all areas. These bring sunny spells and showers, wintry to the north and west. A further area of more organised rain and sleet again passing through Ireland, Wales and southern England later, perhaps turning to snow. Tops near 2 to 7C.
