Frequent rain and some hill snow

Atlantic weather systems will continue to move across Britain during the week ahead. Periods of rain or showers, sometimes with hail, plus snow on the hills. Brisk winds will be common, risk of gales at times. Temperatures will vary - some days mild in the south, but often chillier toward the north.

Tuesday 10/1/23
A frontal system sweeps across Britain, bringing extensive rain. Snow over northern hills, perhaps to lower elevations in central and northern Scotland. Milder air further south. Heaviest rain over Wales, risk of flooding here. Later in the day, the rain breaks up into showers from the west. Brisk west to southwesterly winds. Highs 7 to 12C.
 

Wednesday 11/1/23
An unsettled and blustery day for most. Showers and longer spells of rain across north and west Scotland with gale force winds here. Blustery showers expected across many western areas, some merging into longer spells of rain. Tending to be drier further east. Highs at 5 to 10C.

Thursday 12/1/23
A chilly and mostly dry start with sunny spells in the east. Further rain moves into the west and becomes persistent. Cool in the north and east, becoming milder from the southwest. Increasing southwesterly winds. Highs at 6 to 12C.

Friday 13/1/23
Another windy and changeable day with sunny spells but also showers with hail, some merging into longer spells of rain again mainly in the west. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Saturday 14/1/23
Uncertainty surrounds a developing low moving in from the southwest. A risk of heavy rain and gales arriving. Drier toward the north with frost. Highs at 4 to 8C.

Sunday 15/1/23
Changeable conditions prevail, with westerly winds bringing showers. Brighter spells toward the east. Highs 4 to 9C.
