Changeable, fairly mild
Wettest in north-west

Issued: 0930hrs Thursday 5th October 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Small amounts of rain east & south

A westerly airflow will continue during the week ahead, bringing frequent rain to the west & north-west, plus blustery winds. This pattern brings fairly mild air in from the Atlantic during the days ahead, but also a lot of cloud. Later in the week, it may become more widely unsettled, and cooler for all.

Sunday 08/10/17
A weak ridge of high pressure builds briefly across Britain, although a general westerly airflow prevails. Fairly cloudy, with a risk of drizzly rain on western hills, but many places should stay dry. Bright with some sunshine breaking through toward the east. Winds fairly light, although breezy in eastern counties at first. Top temperatures 12 to 17C.

Monday 09/10/17
Fronts returning from the Atlantic bring wind and rain to the north-west of the British Isles, turning heavy and persistent for western Scotland, and increasingly wet too across Northern Ireland. Patchy rain reaching western coasts and hills elsewhere. Central & south-eastern regions should stay dry and bright, although cloud will thicken. Highs 12 to 17C.

Tuesday 10/10/17
A westerly airflow continues. A weakening band of rain passes south-eastwards associated with a cold front, followed by brighter spells and some sunshine. Frequent rain or showers for western Scotland. Breezy, brisk westerly winds, strongest in northern areas. A little cooler, top temperatures 11 to 16C.

Wednesday 11/10/17
Staying breezy, or windy in the north. Frontal rain continues to affect the north-west, most persistent in western Scotland. Some rain in western areas elsewhere, but central, & south-eastern Britain may escape largely dry. Highs 12 to 17C, warmest south-east.

Thursday 12/10/17
Confidence becomes low later in the week. A generally unsettled pattern is likely. Most rain may stay toward the north-west, but a risk of being more widely wet and windy across Britain. Highs 11 to 16C.

Friday 13/10/17
Low pressure stays close to Britain, bringing wind and rain to many places, some prolonged falls possible. Risk of gales. Cooler, 10 to 15C.
