Better next week, but rain and gales in coming days
An improvement is looking increasingly likely next week as high pressure builds and brings more settled weather. However, clear skies overnight could lead to some ground frosts in sheltered areas. Before then the weather remains unsettled with rain and strong winds at times. Staying cool too.

Saturday 22/5/21 Low pressure to the east of the UK on Saturday. A northwest flow brings brighter conditions with sunny spells and scattered showers, most over windward facing coasts and hills. Heaviest of the showers are likely to be in the far south and southeast of England. Some showers in Ireland, although sunny spells too. Highs at 9 to 14C.
Sunday 23/5/21 A further area of low pressure will be tracking eastwards into Ireland on Sunday. This pushes fronts and rain eastwards across Ireland and then the rest of British Isles during the day. Some rain could be heavy and it will be windy in the south of Ireland and southern England. Drier in northern Scotland. Highs at 10 to 13C.
Monday 24/5/21 Low pressure remains over the British Isles on Monday. This is going to be giving a showery day. There will be bright spells but also some heavy showers developing. Highs at 11 to 15C.
Tuesday 25/5/21 A north to northwest wind flow on Tuesday with higher pressure to the west and lower pressure to the east. There will be sunny spells but also some showers, these generally well scattered. A morning ground frost is possible in sheltered areas. Highs at 10 to 16C.
Wednesday 26/5/21 The cool northwest flow persists on Wednesday allowing for a morning ground frost in well sheltered areas. There will be sunny spells and dry weather in many areas. Some showers in eastern Scotland and Northern Ireland, one or two in southeast England as well. Highs at 11 to 15C.
Thursday 27/5/21 Pressure stays bright with some sunny spells and a risk of a morning ground frost. A few showers in southeast England. Temperatures around 12 to 18C.
