Fronts extend across the British Isles, resulting in cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain in central, west & northern England plus Wales. Heaviest rain over Cumbria and Snowdonia, preceded by snow over hills. South-eastern regions start dry, but rain becomes more widespread into the afternoon. Scotland should be brighter, with showers mainly in the west. Northern Ireland starts dry, then rain spreads in later. Brisk southwesterly winds. Highs 4 to 7C, rising to 10C south-west.

Saturday night
An area of low pressure forms across Britain during the evening as fronts advance north-eastwards. This brings more widespread rain, and threat of gales. Strongest winds around coasts in the south & west, transferring to northern England through the night, then North Sea coasts before dawn. Gusts 60-70mph. Rain will turn increasingly to snow for southern Scotland and northern England. Rain clears from southern England. Lows 0 to 4C, locally lower in the Highlands.

Sunday
A cold westerly pattern, with heavy showers affecting western regions, with snow to low levels, plus hail and isolated thunder. Snow may be very frequent or constant for several hours in western Scotland, whilst clusters of showers are possible elsewhere too. Sunny spells away from showers, and some east & southern areas may escape often dry. Squally winds, gusting gale force locally. Highs 3 to 6C, but feeling sub-zero.

Monday
A chilly westerly wind persists across the British Isles, later turning southwesterly. Showery in the west & north-west, with snow to low levels, locally frequent. Some heavy bursts with a risk of hail and isolated thunder. Squally winds. Sunny spells away from showers. Many central and eastern districts will stay dry most of the day. Starting frosty where sheltered. Top temperatures 3 to 7C, highest toward the south coast.
