New Year's Eve
Hogmanay remains cold thanks to a northerly flow. An area of rain, sleet and snow across northern Scotland will slide south through eastern and southern Scotland during the afternoon and on over northern England, particularly the northeast, by the evening. Northern Ireland and much of Ireland will also see a mix of rain, sleet and snow. Showers affecting north and west Wales as well as southwest England. Mainly dry and bright elsewhere. High temperatures range from 2 to 5C.

New Year's Eve night
Through the evening expect patchy rain, sleet and snow to affect northern England, before pushing south to bring a mix of wintry showers turning into longer spells of falling precipitation at times across central areas of England, Wales as well as southern and eastern parts of Ireland. Dry with clear spells elsewhere but there will be a stream wintry showers and snow across northern Scotland. Overnight lows widely below freezing at -4 to -1C for many northern and southern areas allowing for a widespread frost and ice patches to develop.

New Year's Day
Staying cold in to the New Year. Areas of wintry showers in places, but particularly across northern Scotland and eastern regions of the UK. A mix of rain, sleet and snow could still be affecting central areas of England heading into southern England and parts of the southwest before pushing into the Channel later in the day. A good amount of dry weather about too with frost. The best of the sun over Ireland and the west of the UK. Local fog patches. Highs at 1 to 5C.

Saturday
A cold northeasterly wind comes into play on Saturday as high pressure starts to push closer towards Scotland. Light wind and some fog patches to start. Frosty but bright and largely dry. Any local wintry showers tend to be concentrated over northeast Scotland and eastern parts of the UK. Some showers may affect Irish Sea coasts too. High temperatures at 0 to 5C.
