Snow & ice in north
Windy for many

Thursday
A windy day for all with gales to the north and west. After a rather chilly and mostly dry and bright start a front with rain, associated with low pressure west of Ireland, will push eastwards across the country. Snow is expected on the preceding edge over the hills of northern England and Scotland. Drier and brighter yet still windy weather follows from the west although some blustery showers, wintry on hills and further north to lower levels. Highs 4 to 9C.


Thursday Night
A brisk wind for many continues overnight with scattered showers, wintry furether north and over higher ground, but many places staying dry with come clear spells about. A hard frost across parts of northern and central Scotland with a slight frost for some elsewhere. Lows at 2 to -2C.
 


Friday
Another breezy day but largely dry in central and eastern regions, although some frequent and heavy showers in the west, falling as a mix of rain, sleet and snow, especially on hills further north. One or two showers may occur in eastern areas too. The showers could merge into longer spells of rain, sleet and snow at times through the Highlands. Highs 3 to 7C.
 


Saturday
Becoming windy again with gales for many and rain spreading from the west, some sleet or snow on the highest ground of Scotland and northern England. Dry in the east at first, then turning wet and windy through the afternoon. Highs at 4 to 10C.
