Severe frosts
Cold days

Friday
An area of low pressure will be east of Scotland on Friday, slipping slowly south through the North Sea. The northerly blast brings another cold day with snow showers pushing down on to northern Scotland and a mix of rain, sleet and snow showers through the Irish Sea coasts as well as western parts of Ireland. Some wintry showers onto North Sea coasts though most should stay dry here. Elsewhere mostly dry with good amounts of sunshine. Highs at 0 to 4C.

Friday Night
Overnight, some low cloud, mist and fog could develop. Many staying dry with clear spells though coastal showers will continue with snow over the Cairngorms. Another bitterly cold night with frost and ice developing and lows dropping to -1 to -7C.

Saturday
The low pressure remains to the east of the UK on Saturday. A widespread and severe frost on Saturday morning with some dense mist and fog patches about. Further wintry showers rotating around the low pressure pushing on to eastern coasts of Scotland and NE England. Snow showers also expected across northern and western Ireland as well as north and west Wales. Mostly dry with sunny spells elsewhere. Highs at 2 to 4C.

Sunday
A slack area of low pressure generally sits just to the east of the UK on Sunday. Again the risk of some wintry showers down coasts as well as frequent and some heavy snow showers across northern Scotland where a wind could pick up. Elsewhere dry with sunny spells. A widespread and severe early frost. Highs at 2 to 4C but perhaps 6C in the far southwest.
