Becoming wet and windy overnight into Saturday morning with a heavy band of rain rushing eastwards through the UK. This may turn to sleet and snow over high ground of northern England and Scotland. Low pressure is centred to the west of Scotland for much of Saturday, bringing brighter weather but with heavy showers especially in the west. There is the threat of some more persistent snow affecting central and southern parts of Scotland, northern England, northern Ireland and Northern Ireland later. Severe gales developing across Ireland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales. Highs at 3 to 8C.

Saturday Night
Gales continue through the night for much of the country, spreading into southern parts of Scotland as well. Rain, sleet and snow eases for Northern Ireland and northern England but perists over southern Scotland, spreading northward through the night. Showers, some wintry, affect western coasts and hills of Ireland, England and Wales while central and eastern areas are drier with some clearer skies developing here. Overnight lows widely ranging from -1C to 3C.

Sunday
A cold day on Sunday with low pressure centred over Scotland. A band of more persistent rain, sleet and snow lies just to the south of the low centre bringing more persistent precipitation to parts of Northern Ireland and western and southern parts of Scotland, and northern England as well at times. Cloudier to the north of this with brighter spells to the south. Wintry showers affect western coasts and hills across the country. Gales may continue to affect parts of Ireland, Wales, England and southern Scotland. Highs at 3 to 8C.

Monday
Low pressure north of Scotland on Monday brings rain, sleet and snow showers to western Scotland, Northern Ireland and, later, northern England. Elsewhere will be brighter but with some wintry showers affecting western coasts and hills. A windy day for western coastal areas. Highs at 3 to 7C.
