UK Forecast - January 28, 2018
Rain moving south
Becoming cooler, wintry showers

Monday
A cold front advances slowly southeastwards, bringing a spell of rain for Wales and the Midlands in the morning, heaviest over western hills. A weakening zone of rain or drizzle then drifts across southern counties in the afternoon. Brightening skies for northern regions, with some sunshine breaking through. A few showers around the west coast of Scotland and far north of Ireland, wintry over the hills. Highs 11 to 13C south, but nearer 6 to 8C behind the front in northern areas.

Monday night
Residual rain will fade from southern areas. Many places will be dry overnight, with broken cloud and some lengthy clear spells in some eastern areas. Local mist patches in the south where winds drop light. A west to south-westerly breeze brings thickening cloud to Scotland and Northern Ireland. A few wintry showers in the West Highlands, which may turn into persistent rain or hill snow by dawn. Chilly overall, lows 0 to 3C, locally sub-zero, with a touch of frost rurally.

Tuesday
A ridge of high pressure exists across southern Britain early in the day, whilst fronts are preparing to move in from the Atlantic. A bright start for many central and eastern areas, and it may stay dry all day here, although cloud is expected to thicken from the west. Rain soon develops for western Scotland, Ireland and later western parts of England & Wales - timing uncertain. Generally cool, temperatures 4 to 7C, may rise a little toward evening.

Wednesday
A chilly and showery day with strong west to northwesterly winds. Showers most frequent in the west and north - snow over the hills, and may fall to lower levels at times - a risk of disruptive snow for north-west England, north Wales and western Scotland. Possible hail and thunder. Sunny spells and scattered wintry showers for central, south & eastern Britain. Risk of gales around western coasts. Top temperatures 3 to 7C, but feeling colder.
