A slack high pressure pattern exists across the British Isles, whilst a weakening cold front drifts slowly southwards. Low cloud, drizzle or some steadier rain for a time for northern England and west Wales, plus southwest Scotland at first. Fairly cloudy for much of Wales. Brighter further south and east across England with some sun, but areas of morning fog. Much of Scotland and Ireland will see bright or sunny spells. Mostly little wind. Highs 9 to 13C.

Monday night
Patchy drizzle and low cloud will drift across Wales, the southwest and into the Midlands. Fairly cloudy for many eastern counties, some fog patches forming. Light winds for many places, but a southwesterly breeze will strengthen across northern Scotland with some drizzly rain encroaching into the northwest. Temperatures dipping to 5 to 8C, but locally closer to freezing in sheltered northern valleys. Around 10C near coasts the south and west.

Tuesday
High pressure influences southern Britain whilst low pressure lies to the north. Remnants of a weak front over England & Wales brings variable cloud, perhaps a little drizzle over western hills. Some sun toward the southeast. Light winds for southern areas. Local morning fog patches. Breezier across northern regions, southwesterly winds bringing rain to western Scotland, pushing into Ireland through the day. Risk of gales in the far north. Fairly mild, highs 10 to 13C.

Wednesday
A weakening cold front passes quickly south overnight with some rain. A fresh feeling day with a brisk westerly wind, strongest across northern Britain and Ireland. Frequent showers for western Scotland, falling as snow on the higher mountains. A scattering of showers for northwest England, sometimes frequent in Cumbria. One or two showers elsewhere, but much of central and southern England & Wales will be dry and bright with sunny spells. Top temperatures between 8 and 12C.
