Disruptive snow, frost & ice
Staying cold

Thursday
As the next area of Atlantic low pressure moves in through Thursday more of the country will be under cloud and the snow risk pushes into more northern areas, initally over the hills of Wales central and some parts of northern England then progressively turning to sleet and snow towards lower levels here and on into Northern Ireland and perhaps southern regions of Scotland later. Largely dry and bright with a severe frost expected across central and northern Scotland though snow showers still about for some. Frosty also across southern Scotland, Northern Ireland into northern England, while milder across the far south of England. Staying cloudy with outbreaks of rain mainly across southern England and south Wales. Highs at 2 to 5C for most, though a significantly milder 10 to 12C across the far south of England.

Thursday Night
Another cold night ahead for most with a harsh frost for many across Scotland. Rain, sleet and snow continue to fall across central and northern England as well as much of Wales, eastern regions of Ireland and Northern Ireland where winds will be brisk. Some regions of southern Scotland into the Borders more could see some snow too. Mostly dry with clear spells further north to here, while showery rain in the far south of England where it is milder. A messy and likely disruptive Friday morning commute with a mix of rain but also sleet and snow about. Lows well below freezing across Scotland, -1 to 2C for most and a milder 4 to 8C across the far south.

Friday
A messy and disruptive start to Friday is expected with some falling and lying snow around and temperatures having refroze overnight making conditions particularly tricky. Low pressure continues to push east across the UK with the rain, sleet and snow gradually clearing from the west. Strengthened winds first thing will also ease back. Drier and brighter weather for many in the afternoon though a band of snow pushes south across northern Scotland, while some continued snow flurries linger across eastern regions of England. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Saturday
A frosty start on Saturday as a ridge of high pressure builds across the country. Dry with lots of sunshine in northern and eastern areas at first. Turning cloudier in the west and south with rain in Ireland. The rain spreads to Northern Ireland, Wales and western England during the day, turning to snow over hills and perhaps even at low levels for an hour or two. Highs at 3C in eastern England, 10C in southern Ireland.
