Thursday
Several fronts affecting the UK and Ireland on Thursday. A cold front slipping south through Scotland bringing rain, most of this in the north and east. Some heavy showers developing over the Pennines, but sunny spells away from these showery areas. A further series of fronts brings rain into Ireland this afternoon, this reaching Wales and southwest England as scattered showers develop over the rest of central and eastern England. Highs at a cold 7 or 8C in northern Scotland, 15 or 16C in southeast England.

Thursday Night
Scattered showers continuing overnight particularly over southwestern parts or Ireland and Scotland, northern Scotland and the northwest of England. Elsewhere should see a dry, if somewhat cloudy night. A few mist or fog patches may develop later in the south and east. Overnight lows falling to 1 to 7C for most, though sub-zero temperatures are likely in more rural parts of Scotland and the north of England.

Friday
The cold front will be clearing south through the rest of Ireland and the southern UK on Friday. The front has little more than broken cloud and some showers along it by then. Much brighter, colder weather follows behind the front, although there will be showers in northern and eastern Scotland as well as some blowing into eastern England. The showers could be wintry over the Grampians and northern Highlands. Scattered showers to the west. Feeling cold for all, but very cold along eastern coasts. Highs at just 6C in the northeast of Scotland, 14 or 15C in southwestern parts of England and Ireland.

Saturday
High pressure to the northwest on Saturday brings a cold north to northwest flow and the risk of a morning ground frost to western areas. There is a risk of some showers, which may be wintry in nature, in the north and east of Scotland and eastern England where it will be feeling cold. Brighter and drier to the west with sunny spells and a chance of an isolated shower. High temperatures at 7 to 11C.
