Cold northerly wind
Rain, sleet and snow

Sunday
A colder day for all and a wet start for many, particularly in the south. A cold front will clear the far south later in the morning and may give snow on higher ground briefly as it clears. Winds will generally ease but stay brisk along western coasts. Sunshine and showers developing with showers heavy in places and falling wintry for many. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Sunday night
Low pressure centres itself over western parts of the UK. This will bring rain, sleet and snow to western areas of the country and stay drier further east. Expect a strong to gale force northerly wind too along western coasts. A cold night for many with freezing conditions expected widely across the country with exception to more western areas of Britain including Ireland and Northern Ireland. Lows well below zero across many areas of Scotland and parts of northern England and lows between -1 and 4C elsewhere.

Monday
Low pressure drifts southwards across Britain. This brings a cold day with snow showers, sleet or rain confined to the lowest ground near coasts - most prolonged over northern Scotland and Northern Ireland. Clusters of wintry showers for coasts in west Wales and southwest England, these pushing into central and some southeastern areas of England later. Drier and brighter elsewhere. Strong northerly winds in western areas but lighter winds elsewhere. Highs 2 to 5C.

Tuesday
Another cold day with low pressure now to the east of the country and a general northerly wind, rather brisk towards western coasts. This brings with it rain, sleet and snow to many northern and eastern areas. Risk of more persistent snow developing for eastern Scotland and northeast England later. Tending to be drier in central and western areas. Highs 3 to 5C.
