Low pressure west of Ireland will be pushing a frontal system north through Ireland, England and Wales on Friday, possible thunder and lightning on the front as it passes through. Also expect periods of rain, some heavy, and strong, blustery winds. Drier in the afternoon across much of central, southern England and Wales, although some heavy showers in the west. For Scotland the day starts bright and cold. Cloud increases in the south bringing rain here later, turning wintry over the higher ground in the afternoon. Largely dry across northern mainland Scotland though the islands seeing some wintry showers. Highs at 12C in southern England, 3C in northern Scotland.


Friday Night
Overnight, rain continues to clear from northern England with mostly dry weather behind and clear spells. Rain with sleet and snow over the higher ground, across Scotland slowly pushing northwards. Lows at -2 to 2 across Scotland, 3 to 8C elsewhere.

 
 
 


Christmas Eve
Low pressure west of Ireland on Christmas Eve. A steady south-westerly wind brings frequent, heavy showers to western Wales and western parts of England. Largely dry with sunny spells elsewhere across England. Outbreaks of rain across much of Ireland as well as Scotland. Highs at 6 to 12C.
 


Christmas Day
Low pressure drifts off to the north of Scotland on Christmas Day. Rain will soon clear from NE Scotland to see many places stay dry with sunny spells across the country, though with showers affecting western areas. Some of these could fall as snow over the Highland region. A breezy day and it will feel cold exposed in the wind. Highs at 6 to 11C.
