Increasingly cold, snow showers in Scotland with gales here too, rain in southern England at first
There's a front clearing south this morning bringing some rain in the far south. This front is being push south by colder air which is pouring south through the country thanks to the northwest wind. Behind the rain across the Midlands, Wales and East Anglia as well as much of northern England the weather is likely to be brighter and drier but cold.
Scotland and the north and west of Ireland will be colder with wintry showers. The heaviest of the wintry showers in the northern half of Scotland where we may find some snow affecting hills, but then to lower levels through the morning and afternoon. Gales are likely here and so it will be feeling much colder.
Overnight it stays windy in northern and eastern Scotland as well as eastern England. This brings more sleet and snow showers. Most western, central and southern areas will be dry as will be Ireland. Clearing skies allowing a frost is much of Wales and Ireland.
