Windy with a mix of sunshine and showers, heaviest in the west

Today can be summed up in a few words; windy with sunshine and showers! Most of the showers will be in the west of the UK and these will be heavy at times. eastern areas tending to be drier with sunny spells and staying windy.

Little changes into this afternoon with further showers expected in the west. These may again be heavy and are likely to be merging to more persistent rain in western Ireland and western Scotland later. Always brighter in the east. Remaining windy for all with gales in the west.

Tonight sees some rain in western Ireland and western Scotland. Scattered showers elsewhere, most frequent in the west and staying windy.
