Morning Call - January 11, 2020
Wet & windy
Coastal gales

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 11th January 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A wet and windy day to the northwest though parts of the southeast may stay dry until after dark. A cold front sinks southeastward across the UK and Ireland through the day bringing heavy outbreaks of rain and strong winds with it. Gale to severe gale force winds are expected for coastal regions and across high ground.

Good Morning,

A wet and very windy start to the day for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northwestern Ireland. Drier for southeastern Ireland at first though rain arrives here through the morning. Staying mostly dry through the morning for England and Wales but it will be windy here too with inland gusts of up to 70 mph over northern areas.

Rain edges into northern England and much of Wales through the afternoon while easing for Scotland and Ireland. Showers, some of them heavy, will affect western coasts but it will generally be brighter here later. Continuing dry for much of central and southern England but with increasing amounts of cloud. Staying windy across the country with inland gusts of up to 50 mph across northern Scotland, Wales and central England.

Rain continues to edge southeast into the evening leaving increasingly drier conditions to the northwest with some clear skies too. Winds ease across central parts of the country but stay very strong to the north and southeast.

Have a good day!

Claire
