Very mild for most, colder far north

Good morning,

A broad, deep and complex area of low pressure is located across north-western Britain and Ireland today. A series of fronts will run into western Britain.

Prolonged falls of heavy rain are expected for Wales, north-west England & southern Scotland, with 50 to 100mm over the hills, giving a risk of local flooding.

Extensive cloud across central & south-eastern Britain, but staying largely dry, with just occasional spots of rain or drizzle. The far north of Scotland should also escape drier, with just patchy rain, or snow over the hills.

Strong south to south-westerly winds for much of England & Wales - gale force where exposed around coasts and hills. Sudden gusts 40mph or more even well inland, especially to the lee of high ground in east & north Wales, also north-east England.

Very mild for many - today's top temperatures widely 12 to 15C for England & Wales, but cooler for Scotland & Northern Ireland at 7 to 10C, or locally colder in the far north.
