Sleet & snow in south

Issued: 0530hrs Wednesday 8th March 2023
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Ver cold and mostly dry, but rain, sleet and snow in southern England

A bitterly cold day ahead for all parts of the country. There is some rain and sleet in southern areas of England and southern Ireland, this falling as snow on higher ground. Cloudier skies through the Midlands and Ireland with the best sunshine this morning in Scotland. Snow showers could affect the far north of Scotland.

This afternoon sees a further risk of rain, sleet and snow in southern England and the far south of Ireland. Further hill snow. A low risk of some snow at low levels. Dry for other areas and the cloud through the rest of England and Wales as well as central Ireland making it particularly cold here. Sunny skies and dry in Scotland with snow showers in the far north.

Tonight sees rain, sleet and snow fading from southern England. More persistent rain reaching southwest Ireland in the early hours turning to snow as it edges north. Dry for most other areas, a frost developing, severe in Scotland where there will be snow showers in the north.
