An unsettled spell of weather for the coming week. Windy at times, particularly for the south.

Low pressure dominates the outlook forecast keeping temperatures close to or above average and bringing plenty of cloud, rain and wind. The rain could be quite heavy at times, particularly for western areas, while winds could reach gale force or stronger.

Wednesday 12/12/18
A ridge of high pressure tries to build over southern areas on Wednesday however is is quickly moved over the near continent by another low pressure area. This will lead to early morning mist and fog patches particularly over western areas. Most areas will see a dry, bright day develop with good sunny spells before cloud starts to build once more from the west through the evening. Rain, accompanied by strong winds, reaching western parts of Ireland by the late afternoon. Highs at 6 to 10C.


Thursday 13/12/18
Low pressure is expected to be affecting the whole of the UK and Ireland on Thursday. This will lead to a cloudy, wet and windy day for most. Some brighter spells may develop in the west during the afternoon as a band of rain clears to the east. Winds may touch gale force during the morning over the northern half of the country. Highs at 4 to 9C.

 


Friday 14/12/18
Low pressure over the Atlantic pushes further fronts eastwards across the British Isles again on Friday. Another cloudy day with most areas seeing rain at some point. The best of any bright spells will be in the north of Scotland. Winds easing for most from Thursday though southwestern areas and the Channel could still experience gales or severe gales. Temperatures close to average with highs of 5 to 11C.


Saturday 15/12/18
Low pressure continues to dominate through Saturday. It will be cloudy and wet for northern areas though the southeast of England may see a bright and dry afternoon. Strong winds will remain for the south. Highs at 6 to 13C.


Sunday 16/12/18
Low pressure remains with us through Sunday. It will be a wet and windy day for western areas, drier and brighter in the east. Highs at 5 to 10C.

Monday 17/12/18
Monday starts cloudy and wet in the north but drier and brighter in the south. Staying windy but the strongest winds will shift to the north. Highs at 4 to 9C.
