Thundery showers
Sunny north

Thursday
Rather a lot of cloud over the southern half of England and Wales this morning with some thundery showers too. These could be heavy over high ground at times. There is uncertainty in where the showers may be heaviest, although the Chilterns, Cotswolds and hills of south and eastern Wales currently look to be the focus. Drier further east but breezy here and rather cloudy. Much brighter in northern England, Scotland and Ireland with lows of sunshine to come. The thundery showers continue to threaten Wales and southern England this afternoon, staying rather cloudy and breezy here as well. A few showers may trigger in northwest England and southwest Scotland as well as central Ireland. generally though, these areas stay drier and brighter with the best sunshine in western Scotland. Breezy in England and Wales. Highs at 22C in sunnier eastern areas, 18C in the cloud and showers to the west and south.

Thursday Night
Thundery rain and cloud may again push through England and Wales tonight with the potential for some heavy rain in places, although there is much uncertainty in the detail. Scotland and Ireland should be staying dry with some broken cloud. A fresh northeast breeze, strong on eastern coasts. Lows of 8 to 12C.

Friday
High pressure is to the northwest of Scotland on Friday. A trough through northern England and Wales brings the threat of some heavy, thundery rain to southwest England, Wales, the Midlands and northern England in the morning, this reaching southern Scotland and eastern Ireland in the afternoon. Drier to the south although with lots of cloud and still a few thundery showers. Brighter and drier for much of Scotland and the rest of Ireland with lots of sunshine, although some cloud in northwest Scotland. A fresh east breeze and highs at 24C where it brightens in southern England, 21C in Ireland and western Scotland, 12C on eastern coasts in the stiff breeze.

Saturday
High pressure drifts north of Scotland on Saturday with an easterly flow through the UK and Ireland. Broken cloud for much of England and Wales with some morning drizzle on hills. These fade to leave mostly dry weather with some bright or sunny spells. Dry with sunshine in much of Scotland and Northern Ireland. An area of rain, some of it thundery, could pass through southwest England and into southern Ireland during Saturday morning and afternoon. Highs at a very warm 26C in any sunshine in southeast England, 24C in western Scotland, 22C in western Ireland but cooler along North Sea coasts because of the stiff east breeze at 17C.
