Sunshine & showers
Cool

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 9th October 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A band of rain clears to the southeast across England and Wales today. Behind this, for northern and western areas, it will be a cool day with a mixture of sunny spells and showers. Showers will be heaviest and most frequent over northwestern areas and there may be the odd rumble of thunder here too.

Good Morning,

An area of low pressure to the northeast of Scotland extends a front through England and Wales this morning bringing outbreaks of rain across Wales and to northern, central and western parts of England. Behind this front there will be some good spells of sunshine for Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland though frequent, often heavy, and sometimes lively showers affect western and northern areas in particular. It will also be rather cool here.

Rain edges into southeastern parts of England through the afternoon clearing the far southeast by this evening. Brighter conditions develop across Wales and the northwestern half of England with showers continuing to affect many northwestern areas as well as spreading across Scotland. Showers turn to snow over mountaintops here. Ireland should see showers fade to bring a mostly dry and fine afternoon here. Continuing cool through the afternoon.

Showers persist through the evening around northern, western and eastern coasts. Staying mostly dry though for Ireland, Wales and central and southern England with some good spells of evening sunshine here.

Have a good day!

Claire
