Morning Call - May 01, 2020
Strong breeze but fewer showers
Bright dry spells for many

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 1st May, 2020
Duty forecaster: Donal Considine

Good morning,

After a dry and chilly night, central regions of England, Ireland and Scotland may wake to some ground frost this morning. Conditions milder under cloud in southern counties. Western coasts of Ireland and Scotland should wake to some scattered showers, the showers becoming more widespread by noon hitting all regions of the British Isles. It will be breezy this morning with that Low sitting out in the east introducing a north-westerly flow to most regions, so it will also feel reasonably chilly. This afternoon, some showers may become a bit more intense, especially in central regions of England and Scotland. All other regions will see some isolated showers, but plenty of brighter weather with some sunny spells too. Given the conditions some thunder is possible, especially with those more intense downpours. Conditions will be very breezy along the south coast and western counties of Ireland moving showers along very rapidly. Highs of 12 to 16C expected, feeling quite pleasant in the south-east under clear skies. It will be cooler in the north and along western coasts highs of just 9 to 11C Showers will clear up again tonight for most regions. Some heavy downpours will linger along the east coast, central Scotland and NW Ireland - they will eventually clear though into the night. It remains breezy tonight especially along western coasts, keeping the chance of frost low even under clear skies, but some sheltered regions may see a touch of frost.
