Improving from the west

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 23rd December 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Rain clears from the west where drier conditions and sunny spells develop.

Rain clears Northern Ireland during late morning and continues across Scotland, with some heavier bursts at times with snow falling on higher ground. A cloudy and wet morning for many across England and Wales with patchy lighter rain.

Rain clearing in the afternoon with drier weather and some sunny spells developing, particularly further west. Rain, sleet and snow contiuing across Scotland. Temperatures milder due to the presence of Atlantic air.

Overnight, rain, sleet and snow continues to fall across central and parts of northern Scotland, perhaps though staying largely dry across the southwest and the very far north. Dry elsewhere as a ridge continues to build, though becoming cloudy in the southwest and across Ireland later.
