Cloud and damp, strong winds, rain turning more persistent from the west later
Wet and windy for today as low pressure and the jet stream force fronts eastwards through the British Isles. Heavy rain and severe gales in Ireland this morning, the rain also into Wales and southern England. Drier, and perhaps frosty in Scotland and eastern England, but rapidly here the winds pick up, cloud increases and rain spreads in. Snow affecting the hills of Scotland. Gales becoming widespread and severe with gusts over 60mph around western and southern coasts.
Staying windy into the afternoon with further severe gales and gusts over 60mph, mostly on western and southern coasts and hills. Periods of drizzle and patchy in away from coasts in England and eastern Wales, but further heavy rain in Scotland, snow on the hills. Drier and cold in northern Scotland. Milder for England and Wales. Brighter weather with squally showers moving through Ireland.
Tongiths brings further heavy showers in western areas wintry showers over the high groujd of Scotland. Fewer showers to the west and south.
