Morning Call - January 14, 2020
Severe gales in south
Wet for many

Issued: 0530hrs Tuesday 14th January 2020
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Severe gales, mild for all, rain and drizzle north and west

Good morning,

It's a fair start to the morning, albeit breezy, across much of central and eastern England and Wales. Eastern Scotland is fair too, although there are frequent snow showers over high ground in the west. Further showers affect western Wales, with more persistent and heavier rain soon reaching through southwest England and southern Ireland.

Big changes through this morning and afternoon as heavy rain spreads east. This combines with severe gales focused through central and southern England and Wales. Gusts of 80mph could occur on southern coasts with 60mph inland, thats strong enough to disrupt transport and cause minor damage. More snow showers over the hills of western Scotland. Rain and strong winds persist in southeast England until the early hours of the morning. Further snow showers in western Scotland Turning drier and cooler elsewhere with the winds easing, although still gales in northwest Scotland.
