Rain clearing in south
Wintry mix in north

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 14th January 2023
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Heavier rain clearing. A wintry mix developing as cooler air moves in.

A cloudy, wet and breezy morning across much of England and Wales with heavy rain clearing eastwards and drier conditions developing from the west. A mix of rain, sleet and snow showers pushing across Northern Ireland and Scotland, frequent and heavy in places, with steady snowfall over the Scottish hills and mountains.

Sunny spells but also some showers pushing in on to western coasts and hills across Wales and NW England later, likely wintry over higher ground. Winds strengthening across northern England, western Scotland and Northern Ireland, gales for some, making it feel bitterly cold where exposed.

Overnight, a mix of rain, sleet and possible snow to lower levels, likely to higher ground, pushes southwards through central and southern Scotland into northern and central England including Wales by morning. Drier further south and staying breezy here. Snow showers to northern Scotland. Frost developing across the north.
