Morning Call - May 20, 2021
Rain & gales
Severe gales for some

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 20th May 2021
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Rain and gales spreading east, severe gales for some this afternoon

It's a wet and windy morning across Ireland and the west of England, Wales and Scotland. Gales are already affecting these areas, gusts of over 60mph could occur. Drier in the east and brighter here at first this morning, but cloud is going to be increasing.

It will become increasingly windy for all of us through the morning and into the afternoon with widespread gales. The heaviest of the rain is going to be in western areas. Lightest of the rain in the east. A few bright spells may arrive again in the west in the afternoon, although here there will be widespread, heavy showers and a risk of thunderstorms. Less rain and showers to the far south and over the far north of Scotland.

Tonight stays windy with widespread gales. Heavy and thundery showers affecting most areas, with most of the showers over northern England, Wales and western England as wel as Ireland, More persistent rain continues in southern Scotland.
