Outbreaks of rain, breezy
Severe gales tonight

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 12th January 2023
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Outbreaks of rain, breezy, then heavy showers and severe gales tonight

Cloudy this morning for most areas. Dry in the east at first but outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the west will be edging eastwards. The more persistent of the rain in western Scotland, southern Wales and southwest England. Gales across southern Wales and southern England. Feeling mild for the south, chillier to the north.

Rain spreads through southern England and East Anglia during late morning and early afternoon, the rain not clearing the far southeast until evening. Brighter skies follow from the west with heavier rain in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Severe gales west and north.

Tonight is unsettled with frequent showers, some heavy and thundery. A risk of some snow over the hills of Scotland, northern England and north Wales. Fewer showers in southern England and eastern Ireland. Windy for England, Wales and Ireland with severe gales in England, Wales and Ireland.
