Mild to begin
Turning cooler next week

Issued: 0900 Monday 12th November 2018
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Mild to begin, cooler next week, settled

High pressure located over eastern Europe will build toward Britain resulting in a quiet spell of weather through mid-month. Southerly winds will keep things mild in the short term, but things are likely to become colder later in the month as the winds turn to the east. Very little rain for most places, but typical November dampness is expected with foggy mornings common.

Thursday 15/11/18
A ridge of high pressure centred over eastern Europe continues to exert its influence over the British Isles keeping the country in a mild southerly airflow. Rain is likely to affect Ireland and western Scotland, although tending to ease up throughout the day. A little drizzle for coastal fringes of Wales and southwest England. For much of the north and west it will be a cloudy day with low level cloud and fog in places. In the southeast, where sunny spells are most likely to develop, it will feel warm, with temperatures widely 12 to 15C. Highs of 8 to 11C elsewhere.

Friday 16/11/18
High pressure remains over Europe, though the shifting position of the ridge will bring a slight change in wind direction for the south of the UK with cooler east to southeasterly winds replacing the mild southerlies. Some low level cloud again for northern and western areas though this will break up throughout the day to bring sunny spells for most. A dry day with the best of the sunshine in central and north-eastern areas. High temperatures of 12 to 15C.

Saturday 17/11/18
Little overall change, with high pressure remaining to the east. A cloudy day for parts of Ireland, Wales and Scotland with the best of the sun in southeast England and northwest Scotland. Generally dry, with strengthening moderate winds over the southern half of England. Highs of 10 to 14C.

Sunday 18/11/18
A similar day to Saturday with southeast to easterly flow. Low cloud, patchy drizzle, and a risk of widespread fog in the morning though this should clear to leave a bright day for many. Highs of 9 to 13C.

Monday 19/11/18
High pressure drifts northward over Scandinavia keeping the UK under a fairly settled weather regime. A risk of fog first thing while some eastern areas may remain murky for most of the day. Highs of 9 to 13C.

Tuesday 20/11/18
A similar situation to Monday: the British Isles remain under the influence of an easterly airflow which will bring fog and low level cloud to many areas. The best of the sun will be in the northern and southern extremities of the country. Highs of 8 to 11C.
