Rain in central and southern England, drier to the north

A mild day ahead in the far south of England through today. There will be cloud here and a few spots of drizzle along the coasts and hills. More persistent rain may arrive n the far south of Ireland and southwest England this afternoon.

A cooler day as you head further north. There will be some bright or sunny spells developing, the best of the sunshine in central and eastern Scotland as well as northeast England. A few showers in the west of Scotland.

More persistent rain spreading through Wales, the Midlands and into northern England tonight. The rain turning to snow over the tops of the Pennines and the hills of north Wales. Showers increasingly wintry in northern Scotland.
