Some foggy mornings, slight frosts

High pressure will reside near or across the British Isles during the week ahead, keeping the weather generally quiet. On the cool side, with fresh, bright days, but a risk of foggy mornings and a touch of frost in the countryside. A few local showers are possible at times, but many places will stay dry for several days ahead.

Saturday 29/09/18
Fair weather for much of the country with high pressure extending across central Britain. Early fog patches clearing to give a good deal of sunshine. A westerly breeze is likely to bring cloudier skies and spots of rain to western Scotland. A fresh easterly for English Channel coasts. Chilly in the morning, a slight frost in rural areas. Highs 11 to 18C, warmest in central-southern England.

Sunday 30/09/18
High pressure focused to the west. Patchy rain may affect western Scotland and Northern Ireland as a weak cold front topples in from the north-west, but most of Britain and Ireland should stay dry. Early fog patches clearing. Variable cloud and sunny spells, best in the south & south-east. A general west to northwesterly breeze will feel cool. Highs 11 to 17C, warmest in the south.

Monday 01/10/18
High pressure stays to the west. Generally dry, with broken cloud and sunshine. A few areas of showers are possible, mainly around coasts in the north and east, although one or two bands of showers may affect the Irish Sea. Feeling cool in a northwesterly breeze. A chilly start, and top temperatures only reaching 10 to 15C.
 

Tuesday 02/10/18
High pressure nearby keeps most of Britain and Ireland beneath quiet and fresh autumnal conditions. Sun and variable cloud. Early fog and frost. Few if any localised showers near some coasts. Highs 11 to 16C.

Wednesday 03/10/18
Little change to a quiet weather pattern. Chance of showers in north-west Scotland. Early fog and slight frost possible. Pleasant but fresh by day, perhaps slightly warmer, highs 11 to 17C.

Thursday 04/10/18
Mainly fair with variable cloud and some sun. Early fog patches and slight frost rurally. Winds mostly light. Warmest in the south-east. Highs 13 to 18C.
