Rain, heavy and persistent for some. Showers for Ireland. Strengthened winds.

This morning, spells of rain, some heavy, will sweep northeastwards firstly across Ireland and Northern Ireland before sunny spells and showers develop here, then across Wales and England into southwest Scotland. Staying largely dry but cloudy across the rest of Scotland. There will be strengthened southwesterly winds.

This afternoon, rain will sweep northwards and bring heavy and persistent rainfall to northern Scotland but also continued spells of rain to parts of northern, central England and Wales. Showers for parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland but also some sunny spells. Drier elsewhere with sunshine developing across the southeast of England allowing temperatures to rise here.

Overnight, rain will continue across Wales, the southwest and northern England as well as across parts of Scotland and western regions of Ireland. Drier elsewhere with some clear spells across the southeast of England. Winds remaining strong for some southern coastal regions as well as through the Northern Isles.
