Outbreaks of rain for many

Issued: 0530hrs Thursday 2nd January 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Bands of rain spread to the southeast through the day becoming increasingly showery as they go. Heavy rain expected for western Scotland and north Wales for a time. Gales too affecting western coastal regions and noticeably breezier across the country.

Good Morning,

Any early brightness to the southeast is quickly over as cloud builds from the west. Rain spreads across Ireland through the morning and into western Scotland too. A few lighter showers may develop ahead of this over northwestern parts of England and Wales. A breezy start to the day across the country with gales for western coasts.

Through the afternoon the rain becomes increasingly showery as it spreads across Wales and into western England. Rain becomes heavy over western Scotland but eases for eastern Scotland. Staying dry for south-central and eastern parts of England through the afternoon. High temperatures ranging from 7 to 11C.

Rain eases for Ireland, Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland into the evening but some showery, light bursts persist over England and Wales. These may turn heavier for a time over north Wales. Near gale force winds continue to affect western coasts.

Have a good day!

Claire
