A cold day. Rain clearing in the south with sleet and snow showers in the west.
A wet start for southern areas but the heavier and most persistent of rainfall will clear the south and southeast through the morning. Brighter further north with sunny spells and showers, these falling as sleet and snow, particularly over the higher ground, in the west. Drier towards the east. Winds gradually easing in the south.
In the afternoon, winds will ease somewhat but blustery showers will continue pushing into western parts, these still falling as a mix of rain, sleet and snow. Best of the sunny spells and drier weather will be in the east.
Overnight, expect rain, sleet and snow to western areas of the country and stay drier further east. Still windy along western coasts. A cold night for many with frost developing quite widely across the country with exception to the far south and southwest of England, Wales and Ireland.
