Changeable Conditions Continuing
Wettest in the west, drier in the east

Issued: 1000 Wednesday 20th September 2017
Duty forecaster: Matthew Hugo

Changeable conditions continue in the coming days, but always wettest across the north and west

High pressure is trying to build to the east in the coming days with low pressure to the west. That means that the UK and Ireland are going to be in the battle ground between these two competing areas. There is much uncertainty about which one will win out and whether conditions will lean towards wetter or drier. It is expected that temperatures will be milder.

Saturday 23/9/17
High pressure stays just to the east on Saturday with lower pressure to the west. There will be a weak front in western areas with some showery outbreaks of rain in western Scotland and Ireland in particular through the day. More eastern and southern areas tending to stay dry with sunny spells, especially across SE England. Windy in Ireland and W Scotland in Ireland. Highs at 14C to 20C.

Sunday 24/9/17
High pressure over Scandinavia on Sunday still, with low pressure to the west. This is going to be bringing a mostly dry day with sunny spells although there could be some low cloud on eastern coasts. A weak front will bring some rain or drizzle to Scotland, Ireland, Wales and W England through the day though. Breezy in the west. Highs at 15C to 22C.

Monday 25/9/17
High pressure stays to the northeast bringing an increasing southeast wind. The day should be mostly fair with sunny spells, although rather breezy. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in the far west of Scotland. Eastern coasts of Scotland and England could see some lower cloud. Highs at 16C to 22C.

Tuesday 26/9/17
Pressure stays generally high through Tuesday bringing some low cloud and mist in the morning and perhaps a few spots of drizzle in the east. Generally the cloud breaks to give some sunny spells although rain and stronger winds may reach Ireland and western Scotland later. Highs at 15C to 22C.

Wednesday 27/9/17
Lower pressure west of Ireland on Wednesday with high pressure to the east is still set to dominate. Weather fronts may bring some rain into SW England and Wales, with stronger winds and more persistent rain in Ireland and w Scotland. Drier to the east. Highs at 14C to 21C.

Thursday 28/9/17
Indications that a deeper area of low pressure is to the west of Ireland by Thursday. Fronts push east taking stronger winds and some rain with it, but uncertainty as to whether rain will reach SE England. Highs at 14C to 20C.
