Bright start
Stormy later

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 13th January 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Rain and gales spread across Ireland and Northern Ireland through the morning reaching western parts of the UK by lunchtime. Rain continues to edge eastward across the UK while brighter conditions follow for western areas. Showers will continue here through the afternoon.

Good Morning,

It's a dry, bright and breezy start to the week for much of the UK. Cloudier to the west with showers for western and southern parts of Wales, southwestern parts of England and along the Channel coast. Cloudy for Ireland and Northern Ireland with rain to the far west. Gales already affecting Ireland and the western UK through the morning. Rain spreads across Ireland through the morning reaching far western parts of the UK by lunchtime.

Through the afternoon rain and high winds spread across Wales, Scotland and much of England, with the exception of the far southeast. This readily turns to snow over higher ground in Scotland and the north of England. Brighter conditions follow for Ireland, Northern Ireland, western Scotland and west Wales but showers will be frequent for coastal regions. Gales will continue to affect western areas too. Heavier rain may once again develop over northwestern parts of Scotland and Ireland while winds here could reach storm force.

Rain arrives in the far southeast of England through the evening and clears away from most other areas though may persist for northwest Scotland. This will continue to fall as snow over higher ground here. Showers persist too for western parts of England and Wales. Gales continue to affect coastal areas into the evening.

Take care out there today!

Claire
